It doesn’t matter if there’s ever another NBA lockout. March Madness will be irrelevant from here on out. Local basketball in this city is about to get a facelift. It’s never been seen before, and it’s definitely what the game’s been missing. NBA? No, get it right, it’s the MBA, the Memphis Basketball Association.

Each age group is divided into 2 divisions, Eastern and Western divisions. Each team plays other teams in their own division and teams in the other division. Every game counts, that is if you care about your seed in the playoffs.

But before we get to the playoff race, we have got to tell you about all-star weekend. Yes there will be an all-star weekend. Your favorite DJ will be on the turntable, there will be a three point contest & then in every age group the best players in each division will play in an all-star game. Every all star will receive a medal & a tshirt, & a MVP trophy will be awarded to the top performer… & if I grow 17 inches in the next couple weeks we’ll have a slam dunk contest too. There will be a slam dunk contest in the 16&under division.

Once all-star weekend is over it’s back to the basics, no more fun & games, time to focus on the playoffs and huge coveted MBA championship trophy that’s the size of a tall midget (if there is such a thing). Anyway, so the champs take home this massive trophy but it’s not as easy as it sounds because this isn’t some rinky-dink tournament where a bad call costs you the game & you’re out, or your star pg has to go to his mom & stepdad’s wedding, misses the game, & a underdog teams lucks up & knocks you out. Won’t happen here. This is the real deal, the MBA playoffs where you have to win a best of three series to advance to the next round, every round. So taking home that big shiny trophy the size of a 4 year old won’t be so easy.

But wait, there’s more. We’ll be keeping track of team's standings and individual players’ stats; points, rebounds, assists, and steals. And at the end of every game the top performer of the winning team will receive a Player of the Game certificate. Other individual awards will be given at the end of the season: league MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, & Coach of the Year.
